Urban Commons Seminar: formulations and experiments in Latin America.

Introduction

The CUAL Research Group - Urban Commons in Latin America is pleased to invite contributions to the first seminar “Urban Commons: formulations and experiments in Latin America”, to establish a meeting platform for researchers, teachers, architects, practitioners involved in the production of thought, debate, and experience focused on the urban commons. We consider the concept of the commons as a collective construction and political principle, which proposes a certain commonality built in everyday life that operates in the fissures between State and the market. We welcome diverse perspectives and possibilities of the commons, explored in the propositions suggested by the thematic tracks, both descriptive or conceptual approaches. The event and its organization are products of collective work and are critically committed to the construction of an equitable, inclusive, collaborative and democratic society.

The goal of the seminar is to structure a network that can cultivate practices, establish dialogues, explore hypotheses, foster thinking and exchanges within and outside of the academic environment. To this end, it seeks to promote the exchange between knowledge and action. The Seminar will accept both academic productions and explorations or experiments engaging with the commons, including essays, audiovisual productions, performances, ethnographic reports, and workshops. It will consist of hypothesis roundtables in which presenters and attendees will discuss and collectively create original products such as reflections or provocations from the seminar. Thus, open dialogues will not be restricted to the temporality of the event, but the developments resulting from collective reflections will be part of a digital collection that can include photographic essays, ebooks, interventions, videos, among others.
